With 1935’s ‘Caravanella’, Student Show again switched from its revue format to an original musical comedy; this format lasting for the rest of the decade.
The show was directed by Martin Gray and former (Northern Lights) cast member Stephen Mitchell, and written by George Rowntree Harvey.
The Special Collections archive at Aberdeen University contains a 78 rpm recording labelled ‘Caravanella’ (1933 student show). It is currently unclear if this is a mislabelled earlier or later show, or if this show was indeed recorded. If so, it is the earliest recorded student show in existence.
