Marischal Moments (1944)

The 1944 revue was entitled ‘Marischal Moments’ – the only time so far that Aberdeen’s Marischal College was namechecked in a Student Show title…

The show was directed by A. Hay Prestowe and Thomas Forbes.

It is thought that ‘A. Hay Prestowe’ was in fact the magic trick-inspired pseudonym of Andrew Shivas, who, as well as a noted undergraduate percussionist, was also an accomplished conjurer, and co-founder, in 1925, of the Aberdeen Magical Society.

The ongoing war continued to make itself felt during this production. The difficulty in producing the souvenir programme during this period was made clear in the Editor’s introduction, citing the shortage of paper and firms forced to operate with only a skeleton staff.
