Watch Your Step (1940)

The 1940 Student Show ‘Watch Your Step’ was staged at His Majesty’s Theatre, and directed by George E. Swinney and A. R. Taylor.

It was a return to the sketch format after the musical comedies of the last 5 years, subtitled ‘A Musical Revue in 20 Scenes’.

The poster / cover design for ‘Watch Your Step’ clearly reflected the times, and the Editor of the Souvenir Programme noted that the war had taken the ‘heart and soul’ of the show…

Perhaps the title was both a reference to learning difficult choreography, and advice for day to day living in wartime?
